I see this forum is not just for asking questions and getting answers so I thought I'd post this in case others have this odd blue screen issue in Windows XP.
I built a new computer and have a 28 inch I-Inc HD monitor. When ever I turned the power off on the monitor XP would BSOD with a cryptic error. No device or system file was reported so it was next to impossible to track down. I assumed a driver issue with the video card since it was an unsigned driver and we all know Windows hates unsigned drivers, so I used the Microsoft supplied driver and still got the BSOD.
The Specs: Asus M4A78 Plus Mobo 750watt Corsair Power Supply AMD Phenom II X4 Deneb 3.0 Quad-Core 125W Black Edition Processor 4GB Corsair XMS 1066mhz XFX 1GB 9600GT GeForce PCI-Express 2.0 Hauppauge HVR-1800 Hybrid Video Capture Card Audigy 2 Gamer 250GB WD Sata Boot drive 1TB WD Sata Storage drive. 28 inch I-INC 1080 dpi HD Monitor using HDMI to DVI cable
Changing the HDMI to DVI cable to a standard VGA cable corrected the issue. I can now turn the monitor off without any BSOD. This is a strange issue and I can't say I know why it happens and its really not fixed at all. This is simply a workaround you may possibly use if you encounter this situation. If anyone else has had this issue and was able to resolve it without a cable exchange I'd be glad to know about it.
